Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery
Duration: 1 year
This introductory course is ideal for students looking to begin a career in the construction industry. You will develop practical carpentry and joinery skills while learning about construction techniques, workplace safety and professional working practices. The programme provides a strong foundation for progression to higher-level qualifications or apprenticeships.
Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery
Duration: 1 year
This advanced programme builds on existing skills and knowledge, helping students develop greater technical competence in carpentry and joinery. You will undertake more complex practical projects, develop industry-standard techniques and gain the confidence required for employment or further study within the construction sector.
Throughout your studies, you will develop industry-relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours including:
- Carpentry and joinery principles
- Measuring, marking out and setting out
- Construction of timber structures
- Installation of doors, windows and staircases
- First and second fix carpentry techniques
- Interpreting construction drawings and specifications
- Safe use of hand and power tools
- Health, safety and welfare in construction
- Working accurately to industry standards
- Communication, teamwork and professional conduct
Level 2 students will further develop specialist practical skills and technical knowledge required by employers.

Courses are free for 16-18 who have not studied higher than GCSE's, and for 19-24 with an EHCP. Even if you have studied a different course at college or sixth form we may still be able to help. Speak to the admissions team for more information. There maybe free or reduced costs for adults, contact the admissions team to see if you are eligible.
